A05 Produce personal promotional material and investigate how work might be sold

Researched investigation into target markets.

Within this section I will closely analayse and investigate into target markets and how promotional material is sold. Along with this I will also produce professional Material myself which reflects the innovative and imaginative judgements that I have made, whilst considering my audience and how I will spcifically taget them. This will help me develop my ideas and project as I will have a clear understanding for how this promotional material might be sold.

The importance of producing promotional material

As an artist who has been set a brief from a client, the use of promotional material in order to promote my idea and my healthy eating campaign is vitally important. This can be seen as one of the most important stages throughout the production and development of the project as without research into the target audience and little promotional material to use to 'promote with' then my work would not be noticed, therefore little audience would observe what I have produced. Promtional material also allows me to produce innovative work which is specific produced to attract a specific target audience. With success, professional and innovative promotional material I will have a greater chance of gaining interest within my work as this is undoutedly one the main factors within the whole promotion and presentation stages. This is why it is important to produce innovative promotional material for a clearly identified audience, moreover this will enable me to produce, present and sell my concept to the audience effectively and imaginatively.

Research into the variety of ways to promote material

Due to the digital interworld in which we now live in, there are an array of imaginative and creative ways in which artists, companies and myself have the opportunity to promote our material.

My work can be sold within this diverse market thanks to the ability to promote through an array of platforms, these are.....

How is material innovatively promoted - The internet

Due to the increase of the use of the internet, more and more people seem to be attracted to buying and watching material online. Websites offer a haven for online advertisement and promotional material to be displayed, observed and sold thanks to the amount of user usage and online browsing seen within the 21st century. This could be a potentially successful place to promote material in an innovative manner as the internet hosts various oppotunities to engage with the audience and enable them to observe your material from accross the world.

Material is often promoted using the internet through various techniques in order to visually engage the audience into the material and enable them to potentially buy into the idea promoted by the client.

Target audience engagement through the internet - With the particular layout and possible functions of the internet along with the amount of people that view promotional material online,it is clear to see why almost every company with their own brands, ideas and material use the internet. The internet offers me the chance to promote to the target audience (10-17) year olds in an innovative and stylised manner that will enable them to become instantly aware of the material being promoted in whcih could generate interest and attention on a global scale. The internet enables designers, artists and companies of all sizes to efficiently and globally promote their material in a manner which appeals to their sepcific target audience. Audiences are often attracted to the new wave of promotional possibilites that enable companies, artist and even myself to effectively and imaginatively promote my product, material and idea.

techniques online - Attracting the target audience

One technique/method that is used within the current market is the use of banners and interactactive linked imagery to promote the product, artwork and company. The use of these interactive banners and advertisements allows the target audience set by the individuals to browse and interactively observe what ever material is being promoted. I believe that this promotional method can be effective in allowing me to effectively communicate and promote clearly to my target audience as the use of this specific media can allow me innovatively promote my material in ana appealling manner.

Another method that I can use in order to successfully promote my work and material that I have produced online is the use of online video advertisements and promotions. As I am currently producing a campaign for the healthy eating campaign set by the client, i believe that this specific method will allow me to effective promote my idea in an appeal and attrative manner which will essentially attract to the target audience intended. Online advertisements and video successfully enable companies such as cocacola to appeal to the target audiences with innovative and imaginative promotional videos. This is something that I can apply to my own work as I will be able to promote my work in a stylised and professional manner. This also give me the possibility to promote material on an international level as the target audience from different cultures, countries and backgrounds are essentially able to see the same promotional material.

How can I effectively promote my own work to fit the target audiences requirements through online advertising

I believe that my own promotional material will be effective in appealling and attracting the attention of my chosen audience if I were to use this specific method of promoting. As the target audience are between the ages of 10-17 it is important for me to appeal to them in an imaginative manner. After exploring into my target audiences and the other promotional material that is currently out there in the market that is aimed at this target audience, I believe that (with the use of vivacious colours and stylisation) I can attract them with create online advertisement that promote my campaign.

This is my promotional material for my campaign which will be presented on the interent. After various investigations I believe that this would be an effective method in enabling me to attract the attention of the specific audience in which I am aiming the campaign at. The use of colour is important, so too is the overall style of the web material as this will allow me to imaginative promote the healthy eating campaign successfully.

( Above - my own online promotional material that has been constructed to show what it would visually look like on the website Yahoo).

I believe that this method and technique can be an effective marketing and promotional technique to use as advertisements and promotional videos and banners on website can enable my work and campaign generate interest and reflect the message in which I wish to convey in an imaginative manner.

Research into the variety of ways in which I can advertise - Promotional Flyers

This specific method is used to effectively promote business, artists ect material such as artwork, ideas and events in order to attract attention and possible sales. The reason I investigating into this specific method of promotion was because of my possible target audience in which I am aiming this campaign at. I believe that this method would be an effective method of drawing in attention from people aged 10-17 as I would be able to physically go out into public areas and physically hand the advertisement flyers out to ensure that I am able to generate interest from the correct target market. Flyers are effective in generating interest as a large quantity of flyers can be handed out to a vast amount of people in a short amount of time. This promotional method can be an effective and imaginate way to generate interest for my particular campaign as I would also be able to generate further interest due to the repore established with myself and the target audience on the streets.

After research into the use of flyers ect I found out about the importance of using this specific promotional material and how vital it was in generating public interest and sales. I found that almost every company within the advertisement industry at one point use flyers to advertise and market their brands, ideas and campaigns. After extensively researching into this particular method of promoting I found that the benefits were

  • The expense - Research taught me that this specific promotional material is inexpensive to produce. As this promotional material is produced out of paper and ink the costs of production are within budget. This method can also save my clients alot of money due to the cost of production as other promotional material used on the market is generally much more expensive. Factors like this much also be considered as it is important to stay within the budget given by the client.

  • Simple approach to getting the word around - After researching into this promotional material I found that an array of businesses use this method due to it being cost efficient and also getting the word round quickly. As most businesses start out with limited financial resources for advertising, most decide to use flyers in order to quickly and efficiently get the word out about their particular campaign or brand ect effectively.

This method can be a benefical aspect of this specific method as it allows the target audience to communicate on a physical level if I were to promote in person in public areas as this enables them to ask questions ect and also enables me to further promote the product and idea further so they are even more appealed and interested.

Attracting the target audience with this promotional material -

This specific method of advertising and promoting my idea can effectively and simply generate interest due to the vast amount of flyers that can be made and sent or given to the target audience. As it is easy for me distribute I will be able to potentially be able to attract more attention from the intended target audience due to the quantity of flyers being handed out. I believe that the target audience will be attracted to this method of promoting as the flier is simple to read, quick and easy to gain and can be effectively viewed as most of the target audience will either keep the flyer in their pocket after reading and then once they get home get it out and read it, or they will pass the flyer on to their friends which will again generate further interest in my work.

Below I have produce a flyer for the promotion of my healthy eating campaign. As the flyer must be visually effective in gaining interest from this target audience I decided to stylise it to the according taste and visually make it exciting for this specific target audience ( 10-17) to view as this would more than likely enable me to effectively sell my idea and campaign.

Investigating into the use of flyers as an effective and imaginative way to promote my campaign gave me the idea to sample this method and produce my own version of that the flyer will look like If I were to use this promotional method to capture my target audiences attention and generate further interest.
I believe that the overall style and layout of this flyer will enable my campaign to generate more interest from my intended audience as the innovative and creative methods in production has enabled me to produce an effective promotional material which should appeal to my inteded audience thanks to the application of various techniques and conventions found due to the previous research.

Selling/promoting my work to the target audience through the use of flyers.

Flyers can be an effective and imagiantive way to present and promote my work to a vast amount of people within my chosen target audience. A creative, professional and stlyish flyer can generate interest as the flyer is produced with the specific target audience in mind. There are several aspects that must be considered in order to effectively promote my idea and sell the idea successfully to the target audience. As my target audience is between the ages of 10-17 there are some key elements to consider whilst producing the flyer. These are

  • Colour - One of the most important aspects that must be considered is the use of tone and the way that tones is applied in order to present and promote the product, company or artist on the flyer in an effective way. After researching into my target audience and how they are attracted to posters, flyers and advertisements for things such as music bands, computer games and film I found a correlation in the use of tones and colour in order to promote and imaginally present their product successfully. I found that the target audience (10-17) were often attracted to ther viviacious colour and tones used. Colours such as reds, blues, yellows can effectively be applied to imaginatively and innovatively present my ideas effectively.

  • stylisation - The style of the poster is vital within the presentation process. A flyer that is heavily stylised to the needs and requirements of the target audience will enable them to be more attracted to the product or campaign on the flyer.

Research into the variety of ways to promote material- Posters

Posters have the ability to advertise and present to the target audience in an innovative and attractive manner. As posters can be displayed within a variety of locations from cinemas, shops , buses , trains to bus stops and shools to opportunity to promote and present is endless.Posters also have the ability to be presented and produced to a variety of sizes. This could enable me to effectively promote and present my campaign effectively and innovatively to the specific target audience as I will be able to display posters in public areas and areas that attract my intended audience in order to generate attention and intrest with the NHS healthy eating campaign.

After collecting research from various websites and extensive research into the target audience and their requirments i found most posters share similar conventions to one another. I believe that if I were to stick to common conventions whilst also adapting the conventions in order to imaginatively develop and professionally present my campaign effectively. After researching into this method of promoting my material I found that the benefits for using this were.

  • The cost - As this method only uses print and paper/card it is essentially cost effective as the print is cheap to produce and cheap to make a large quanitity of copies. This could benefit the promotion of my healthy eating campaign as I will be able to produce more posters and place them in locations that the traget area will generally be found in ( such as school, cinema ect).

  • Variety in size - Another beneficial aspect of using posters to promote and generate interest in my campaign is the possible variety of sizes available for me to produce them in. As the cost of production is cheap, it is possible to produce a variety of sized poster in order to attract the specific target audience.

  • Ability to place them anywhere - One of the main benefits of this specific method is the ability to be able to , once produced, place the posters in a wide range of areas. As the target location often congregate in community spaces and areas of entertainment ( music venues, cinemas, sport centres I believe that this specific method of promoting my idea could be an effective way to generate interest and audience appeal. After various research into the target market I found that posters are often used to appeal to this specific audience and generate sales and interest, taking this into account I belivee that this could be an imaginative method of promoting my healthy eating campaign.

    Attracting the target audience

In order for this method to be effective and successful it must appeal to the target audience and their requirements. As Posters are easy to distribute and place I believe that this will enable me to attract a larger audience from my intended audience group as the posters will be placed in areas that are generally areas that arewhere the target market often socialise and and spend most of there time ( social centres, health clubs, community spaces). Doing this will hopefully enable me to promote the material effectively and innovatively as the style of the posters will hopefully attract and generate attention from this specific group of people.

Below I have produced my very own poster. This poster was produced in order to effectively promote the healthy eating campaign to this specifc group of people ( between the ages of 10-17). After following various codes and conventions found within my research of poster displays I was able to imaginatively produce the poster that took in mind the requirements for the audience.

Taking conventions and styles found in other promotional posters I was able to imagiantively produce my own promotional poster material for my campaign. After investigating into an array of poster designs and styles in order to attract to thier specific target audiences, I was able to integrate and promote my idea for the NHS campaign within this poster. If I were to use this specific method of promotion for my own campaign I believe it would be a success due to the benefits of using this specific method as stated and researched above. I believe that, thanks to target market research I would be easily able to sell my work and the idea behind my campaign as I have a clear idea of what the target market is appeal to and how I can effectively present my campaign to them.

promoting/selling my work through the use of posters

Promoting my idea and healthy eating campaign through the use of posters can be an effective way to generate interest and an audience. As it is simple, efficient and low cost to produce and mount/display the amount of posters that can be produced with the budget in mind is generally more than other methods of promotion. Having more advertisements around areas where the target market socialise in will also generate interest. As they get more familiar with the idea they will hopefully investigate further into what the campaign is about and what they can do. I believe that I can promote the campaign through

  • awareness - As I am able to produce and display more posters around various areas, more people will observe them. This should lead to the motion of "passing information on through word of mouth". As the interest grows with the target audience through talking about the advertisements in school, ect there will hopefully be more people engaged and interested in this healthy eating campaign.

  • style - Again, style is an important factor to take into account. As the target audiences needs and appeals are different to another target audiences It is important to produce and present the posters in way which specifically appeals to this group. With a fitting style, more people will hopefully be attracted to the campaign behind the poster as the style visually appeals to them.

  • layout - One of the most important factors to consider is the layout of the poster. As the poster must be simple to read and visually appealing it is important for me to lay out the poster in an imaginative and effective way. If the poster is not layed out correctly then this cause cause implications as there is a possbility that the audience may not understand what the poster is about or may not be visually appealed to take any notice of the poster itself.

How is material innovatively promoted- Promotional Postcards

Promotional postcards enable companies and artists to innovatively display and present their campaigns to promote attention from their intended audiences. I find this specific method appealing and visually exciting as it allows distributers to cheaply but effectively gain the attention of the audience through exciting layout design, specifically chosen imagery and content.

As you can see from this example of a promotional postcard, there are often common trends that are applied within the postcard in order to effectively capture the audiences attention and imaginatively appeal to the target audiences needs. Promotional postcards are often used by a vast variety of companies, artists visitor attractions ect in order to promote themselves so that the audience will essentially be interested in finding more about the subject on the postcard.
After researching into the use of promotional postcards and how they are used to effectively promote something, I found that the benefits of this specific method were .....

Simplicity of the promotional material - The beneficial aspect of using this promotional material is the simplisity and effectiveness of it.Promotional postcards enable the core message of the featured subject on the card to be highlighted easily and effectively for the target audience to observe. As it is easy to read, the message van be understand and portrayed much easier. This in turn will enable more people to understand the concept ( such as the healthy eating campaign) which will therefore generate more interest and attention.

  • Layout of the content - With a postcard being small , the information and content on the card has to be layed out effectively. An effective and imaginative layout will mean that the target audience (10-17y/o) will be able to understand the campaign and concept behind the idea. This will ultimately be beneficial for the campaign as people will understand what it is you are specifically trying to promote.

  • style - Like with posters and flyers, the style of the promotional postcard has to be one which is visually appealing to the target audience. As the postcard has to be inviting and appealing to the audience in order for them to want to learn more it is important for me to effectively stylise my work in accordance to the target audience. Doing so will enable my campaign to be a success as the target audience will generate interest and appeal for what you are promoting due to the overall style and professional presentation of the campaign through the use of Promotional Postcards.

Attracting the target audience

This is unquestionably the most important factor to consider and assess which producing personal promotional material. If the target audience are not visually excited about the promotional postcards due to its style, layout, content then the likelyhood is that not enough interest would be generate into the campaign in order for it to be a success. Poor quality Postcard material will be unattractive to look at and will not be visually appealing for the target audience. With this in mind there are several factors that must be considered in order for this specific promotional material to be used in order to promote the healthy eating campaign.

This is my very own promotion postcard that I produced in order to effectively present my healthy eating campaign to my target audience. After researching and investigating into how Promotional Postcards are produced in order to attract specific audiences, I was able to use common conventions to produce my final postcard which will hopefully draw attention from the target audience in which I am specifically aiming this campaign at. The use of promotional postcards could be a beneficial part of successfully promoting and advertising my healthy eating campaign as they are easy and efficient to use, easy to give out and have the opportunity to generate furthe interest for my client.

selling/promoting my work through the use of promotional postcards
My healthy eating campaign can be effectively promoted through the use of this promotional method in order to gain target audience interest. As the core element of advertiseing with postcards is to essentially sell the product to the target audience it is important to produce this promotional postcard with the intended audience in mind.

TO MR REYNOLDS - I AM CURRENTLY STILL ADDING MORE TO THIS , (FRIDAY 24TH JUNE)

A04 Organise and present a display/exhibition of work

The main objective of this specific task is to effectively and imaginatively present and display my exhibition of work. The exhibition of my work that I have produced will allowed me to present and promote my work in the most effective manner as it can be observed easily and on a physical level. Doing so will also enable me to use various materials and techniques along with deploying various skills that I have learnt and adopted in order to imaginatively present and display my work to the audience.

the importance of a display/exhibition

After extensive research into various ways that I can effectively display and present my work ( found within this unit) I have found that the actually displaying and exhibiting of work is fundamentally one of the most important and crucial factors in successfully gaining audience appeal. Exhibiting my work on a professional level through the use of wall displays ect will enable me to present my work in an intuitive but creative manner so that it reflects my work in a positive manner to the audience.
I find that one of the most creative ways to display work is this orthodox method of exhibiting. Even though this method of displaying has been around for generations I find it a visually empowering method as the simplicity allows there to a greater focus on the artwork and the artists creativity. This type of method is something that has influenced my decisions upon which way i will display my work due to its aesthetic qualities and professionalism.

Which methods and techniques did i choose to display/exhibit my work

After researching various methods of exhibiting work in order to creatively appeal to an audience and present in the most effective way, I found that the most suited to my style and my initial ideas would be to display my work on a black wall. The reason I chose this method was due to the effect it has over the artwork. As I wish to display my work so that the artwork itself can be the main focus I believe that this specific opportunity will allow me to display in an effective and imaginative manner. Displaying work in this will also be easy for the audience and my client to come and visit the display and visually see the artwork for themselves as this gives a more personal feel to the display than other methods such as online displays ect.
I believe that this specific method is one which is visually appealing and effective in enabling me to professionally exhibit my work.

using this method to respond to the client feedback

I believe that the displaying of my work on wall mounted boards will be an idea that the client will approve of and like. As the client wished for me to produce a display that they could actually come and see themselves, I believe that this method will be a successful and creative way to do such a thing. As the client wishes for me to present my work in an easy and organised manner I also find this specific method beneficial in allowing me to showcase the work that I have produced in order to appeal to the client and fit within the requirements of the brief. After I have used this method to display my work in an appropriate and professional manner I believe that the client will be inevitably happy with what I have produced. The aesthetic quality and level of simplicity along with this professionalism will effectively display my work to the highest standard.

How to engage the audience through resources

In order for this to be a successful method of displaying and exhibiting my work it is important for me to deploy various techniques and use the resources available in an effective manner, as this would allow me and my work to engage with the audience and make them interested and appealed to what I have produced. For the exhibition to be a success there has to be several aspects of the display that must be assessed and examined, these are .....

  • location/ using resources to enhance the location - As the location of work is critically a key focus within the development of producing a display of my work and an important factor to assess and also present professionally it is important for me to pay attention to the aesthetics of the location by using resources to make it look visually appealing and an imaginative place for my work to be displayed in. With a poor and unprofessional location to house my exhibition of work i will be unable to present my work in the most professional and creative way, this will lead to the audience being "uninterested" with my work as a poor location will lead to a poor display of my work.

- To overcome this I will use a variety of methods and resources to enable me to showcase my work in the most appropriate and creative manner. One of my ideas that will hopefully allow me to produce a perfect backdrop for my work to be exhibited in is the idea that I could use a dark wall to highlight and make my work stand out so that it is visually striking and appealing to the audience. As the audience appeal is one of the most important factors to consider it is important for me to use resources available ( such as card, working tools and suitable areas) in order to present and display my work effectively.

  • Audience appeal - arguably the most important aspect to consider when considering the display of my work and the resources being used to present. As the audience wish to see an exhibition of my work that is creative, innovative, imaginative and aesthetically pleasing to view it is important that I cater to their needs and requirements in order to appeal to them and generate further interest in my work. In order for me to do this it is important for me to use the resources available. I believe that I have located a place which will enable me to creative present my work to the audience in a professional and visually pleasing manner. I wish to change the backdrop of the location to a dark colour such as black. I believe that in doing so with the use of black card I will be able to showcase the work in a manner that is simple but effective. As the majority of the images have a white background I find it important to have a contrast of colour in order to highlight my work appropriately. Using resources and materials will also enable me to display the work that I have produced in a more creative and visually striking way due to the planning and thought behind how I will effectively attract and appeal to the audience.

  • Aesthetics - In order to gain the audiences interest it is vital for my work to visually striking, creative and appealing for them to observe. The use of various resources and tools will essentially enable me to produce a much more appealing display as I will essentially be able to produce a much more interesting and exciting presentation of work.

How resources were used to promote/display my work

After various investigations into displays of artwork and how artwork is displayed not just within an exhibitition but within the community (found within A01 of this unit) I found that the most appropriate and fitting method would be to mount my work on a selected wall which would have black card and a wooden frame around it in order to imagiantively display my work to the audience. I believe that this specific method will enable me to appeal to the audience as they will be visually attracted to the diaplay due to the style and professional presentation of my work. The use of various resources and materials will also be a great influence over the outcome of my exhibition of work. As I wish to produce a visually pleasing and striking display I find that this method is simple and effective in enabling me to display my work in a manner which is professional and beneficial as it will visually appeal to the audience and hopefully the client.

As you can see from the image to the left , I believe that I have produced a a visually exiting and appealing display through the use of resources and various materials and techniques. I was able to construct this display professionally and efficiently due to the planning beforehand. The use of tools such as staplers, scissors, glue and guillotines allowed me to also present my work in this professional and visually pleasing manner as I was able to effectively and imaginative use resources available to construct the exhibition of work.

The use of colour was an important factor to consider. As various other research into displays led me to understand how important the use of colour was within the exhibition of work I found it important to use colour effective in order to produce an aesthetically pleasing display for my audience and client. I decided to choose a mixed colour scheme for the backgrounds of each individual piece of work as I found that this would enable my display to be unique and visually interesting to observe from the clients perspective. The resources available enabled me to make this idea into a reality as I was essential able to produce my display in the way that I originally intended.

A03 Produce and present a portfolio of work

Presenting a portfolio of work

With any portfolio work It is vital to present and display the work within in the most professional manner. All aspects of design, use of colour , layout and style has to be integrated within the portfolio in order to present the work effectively. Within this section I shall be extensively investigating and explaining how to produce and present a portfolio of work for a degree/university course.

The benefits of effectively producing and presenting a portfolio of work

With a professionally constructed and presented portfolio of work an array of opportunities will arise. As the current industry and various art programme wish to see a cleverly displayed and planned out portfolio of work it is vital for your portfolio to capture the innovative, creative and imaginative mind of the artist. As places on courses are limited within the current conditions it is also important for the artist/candidate to present their work in the most creative manner in order to distinguish their portfolio from the rest in order to gain a place on a degree course ect.

How to present/ produce a portfolio of work for a foundation/degree interview

Even though an important aspect of the interview is about yourself and how you present and express your creativity through discussion and personality it is equally important for the portfolio to be of a high quality. As the interviewer may conduct a vast amount of interviewers with potential candidates it is vital for the candidate to differentiate their work from the rest. Taking this into account it is equally important to note that they must do so in a professional manner that is still effective, innovative and imaginative in order for the interviewer to be impressed by the portfolio of work that you have presented and produced. Below is a break down of all the different elements that should be looked at in order to present and produce a portfolio of high quality.
First page in which I would present and produce my portfolio.
This is the first page for my portfolio in which I would present my artwork. The simplistic layout enables the viewer to see the work in the most effective way. I have broken down the key aspects below in which to make this look effective
The Layout of the portfolio

One of the most important aspects to consider within the production of the portfolio is the actual layout of the designs, images annotations and text. Aesthetically, it is important for any candidate to be unique and creative with how they present and construct the work. An effective and carefully layed out portfolio enables the university to observe the work in a way which visually flows throughout the portfolio. The layout of the portfolio is also important in order to capture the attention of the interviewer as the portfolio should be innovative and eye catching from the beginning of the portfolio to the end.

The second page

As you can see from the image to the left, this is what the second page of the portfolio would look like. The structure and overall layout of this portfolio has meant that the text is easily distinguished from the images in a way which is professionally and creatively presentable to the interviewer. An aspect of the the layout of image, design, text and various other annotations to consider is the importance of being creative and expressive. The university want to see a professionally constructed portfolio that shows clear and detailed attention to the layout as this is key to enable the work within to be shown in the most visually pleasing manner. An important aspect to note is the importance of communicating effectively within the portfolio to the intended audience. As the "intended audience" within this particular situation is the interviewer and/or university it is important to present and effectively design/layout work which is suitable for the requirements of the university. Even though your work may look visually pleasing and show elements of the candidate being innovate and imaginative with how they lay the portfolio out, it is equally important to produce and lay the work out based around the needs and requirements of the university. If the portfolio is not produced with the intended audience ( university) in mind then they may believe that it looks UN professional as they may believe that the candidate is not the right person for the potential place on the course. All these little factors of design and layout of the portfolio are key in pleasing the interviewer and presenting a creative and imaginative portfolio that expresses the innovative and artist mind of the candidate for the degree course.

The use of colour to effectively present a portfolio of work

Along with the important factor of laying out the portfolio effectively it is equally important to consider the aspect of presentation with the consideration of colour. Colour has a variety of benefits within a portfolio of work as it .....

  • Separates the text, images, annotations and designs within the portfolio from page to page- The use of colour is used to distinguish the difference between the work within the portfolio so that the interviewer can observe the portfolio effectively.

  • It Can be used to make the portfolio look innovate - The possibilities with the use of colour are endless. Every artist has a different style and within the interview this needs to be portrayed. As it is important to reflect your style in the most professional and creative manner it is important to make the portfolio innovative. This may be due to using coloured card, paper and material ect with cardboard underneath in order to raise the image, design and/or text so that it gives a greater aesthetic feel to the portfolio.

  • Makes your portfolio individual - The universities wish to see a candidate that has their own style ( that is of a high standard). The use of colour effectively could ultimately decide whether or not you are suitable for the course as it gives the portfolio a professional finish (when used and combined appropriately). The use of colour gives style and individualism to a portfolio of work as this enables the university to see what styles and techniques you deploy with the portfolio and how you execute the task of effectively producing a portfolio that is of a high quality.

Taking these into consideration will enable the portfolio to reflect the creativity and imagination of the potential candidate as this factor is vital in order to produce a portfolio that is captivating and visually interesting and unique from the beginning to the end. The consideration and contribution of the effective use of colour could ultimately enable the candidate to gain a place on the course, as this will enable the portfolio of work to be of a creative and higher standard than that of a portfolio without this attention to the use of colour.

As you can see from the image to the left, it is important to focus on the layout and use of colour within a portfolio. This articular candidate has effectively distinguished the text from the images in a manner which enables the university to be able to observe the page fluently. The way that colour is deployed and effective incorporated within this portfolio shows a clear understanding and creative ability to apply the conventions in order to produce a professional portfolio of work.

The combination of both factors of layout design and effective use of colour give a creative and professional quality to the portfolio. The way in which the work is presented gives a positive reflection of the candidate as the universities wish to see a portfolio that is reflective of the candidates abilities, techniques and style. Being able to professionally, innovative and creatively produce a portfolio for a degree interview will give the candidate a better chance in succeeding and making it onto the course.

Innovation, imagination and creativity with producing a portfolio of work for a degree interview

One of the most important factors to realised with developing and producing a professional portfolio for degree courses is the integration of deploying your own style and imagination into the portfolio. One of the most important elements of presenting a portfolio within an interview is portraying your own style and imagination within the portfolio as a whole. As the university wish to see the most creative and high quality pieces of work within the interview it is important to display a range of work that has depth and a true variety of methods and styles incorporated within to ensure a successful interview. The sections below describe what must be done to ensure that the portfolio shows the creative, imaginative and innovative side of the artist.

How to effectively communicate to my intended audience

One of the most important details to consider is the appeal to the target audience. As this select group of people are the ones in which I am going to have to successfully " win over", it is vital for me to effectively present my work to a high standard. One way in which I could communicate is through imaginative and professional display work. If I were to present my work in an innovative and stunning manner to the audience, this would impress my taregt audience and would enable them to be attracted to my work.
As It is vital for me to present my work in the most appropriate and imaginative manner, whilst also displaying the work in a profession way I must assess the ways in which I present into greater detail. Doing so (like what I have done above)will potentially generate further interest from the target audience.
The ways in which I have designed and produced examples for how I wish to present to the target audience (portfolio images above), I believe will creatively and imaginatively display my work in the best possible manner. This in favour will therefore generate further interest from the target audience as this style of presentation will effectively communicate with the appeals of the intended audience.

A02 Research how professional artists/designer present, promote, manage and sell their work

Research How professional artists/designers present, promote, manage and sell their work.

Within this section of this particular unit I shall be investigating and researching a particular artist and their work. My main aim is to understand and find out how the particular artist sells and promotes their work whilst also gaining an insight in the artists particular background and nature of their work. This task is important to perform in orer to understand “How the market works” within the art world as all the information gained shall help me with my animation and promotion of work. As part of this section of the unit I also plan to investigate in how the particular artist that I have chosen works and manages themselves. This is an important aspect to analyse in my opinion due to the professionalism needed to be successful within this particular profession in order to find work for companies and/or be able to successfully promote your work and get it noticed. I shall also independantly identify and research an extensive range of sources that are carefully analysed.

The Artist - indepth analysis of the artist

The artist I have chosen to analyse and investigate into is the Australian painter Peter Churcher. The main reason to which I decided to investigate into this specific artist rather than that of a more common artist such as Banksy or Picasso was due to the diverse background and lifestyle the artist has to myself and many other artists. As I found it important to research an artist who shares little similarities in lifestyle to that of myself ,I had realised that this would enable me to further and broaden my knowledge and research as I was able to learn about a new culture and understand how the particular artist promotes, exhibits and sells his work.
Peter Churcher was born in 1964 in Brisbane, Australia , where he started to produce art at the age of seven. Peter incorporates a realistic style within his portraits and figures which I particularly find visual mesmerising and consuming, moreover, this could possibly be one of the reasons why many are drawn in to Peter churchers artwork.

How does Peter churcher present, promote and sell his work?

Peter Churcher's work is represented in many major public, corporate and private collections throughout Australia and overseas including the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra, The National Portrait Gallery, Canberra, and several private collections within the states and New zealand. This promotional element of Churchers work has definately made me contemplate my promotional methods in terms of getting my work displayed and noticed. This empirical research had shaped my way of thinking as I have certainly taken more thought of the clear importance of displaying my work in a suitable and successful manner. The distribution method of Churchers work can definately be something that can be applied to that of my own work and project. This research has led me to believe that alternative methods of presenting, promoting and selling work could possibly enable me to gain aknowledgement from many who otherwise would not be able to view my artwork. I have found that this stage of the "artist life" is crucial in establishing themselves within the industry as presenting and promoting in a successful manner is the ultimate goal for an aspiring artist.
One element to the selling of Churchers artwork that I find dynamic and unique to that of the common method of distributing artwork is how most of his artwork is selectively commissioned to private owners and art galleries across the world. From a critical perspective I had my doubts about this specific method of selling artwork as there was a lack of appeal due to the simple ways of simply selling to collectors and galleries without really " testing the market" as such. As I analaysed and investigated with greater depth I realised how diverse and copious this market is. As there is always a high demand of artwork needed for galleries and collections (again for a variety of reasons) for the artist It can be greatly beneficial and simple to sell artwork within this sector of the industry as high demand ultimately means the artist can easily sell work and make a large sum of money quickly. The factors of money and time have also got to fall into the equasion and be of some consideration to the artists when they promote and try to sell their work. As I have continued with this investigation of such artists and how they distribute, present and promote work I have come to realise that there are a variety of factors that we must take into consideration in order to fully understand the potential of the market to which we are distributing work.

How does his art relate to my work and how can I apply his work to that of my own ?

I specifically chose Peter Churcher to focus on within this section of promoting, selling and presenting due to his success within the artistic market and within the industry on a general level. His artistic techniques on canvas have enabled Churcher to succeed and establish himself off the canvas. I believe that Churchers ability to produce the essence of realism within his work has generated interest from a large, diverse audience from multi-cultural backgrounds as he explores the human body and raw emotions we express perfectly within his artwork. The subtlety of Peter churchers artwork such as jay with skull ,2005, (above left) and true balance of combining tones and textures enthasise the artworks symbolism and originality whilst also being able to produce something that has true depth and a slight twist on that of a traditional piece of artwork. All of this as described are things that I can incorporate in order to enable my work to flow and have greater meaning. This would certainly add an extra quality to my work where upon the combinations of tone and texture would enable me to continue to produce better work for both my client and future clients.

Peter churchers work definately relates to my own work on many levels. His true passion for oil painting and other media forms has formiddably inspired me with my own creations and ideas. On the development side of this I do believe that Churchers ability to explore a detailed range of expressions, atmospheres and attitudes (along with feeling and emotion) on canvas has made me think more about how my own ideas and expressions can be portrayed through my work. Pablo Picasso once said - "Are we to paint what's on the face, what's inside the face, or what's behind it?" My response to this quote and belief is that churcher expresses all three of these factors within his artwork. Churcher In my opinion undoubtedly expresses a set period in time, expression or collection of feelings with all three of these factors of Picasso's in mind as he executes his paintings to a quality that has inspired me and my way of producing various artwork ect for this project and undoubtedly others to come.

The artist:Margaret Licha, designer and ceramic tile artist

After extensively researching and understanding how Peter churcher presents, promotes and sells his work I have decided to explore a different type of artist in order to fully understand a how a extensive range of artists and designers promote, sell and present their work. The importance of exploring a variety of artists is key in developing my own project and artwork as the tools I have and will gain enable my work to be a higher standard and level to what I have been working at. This in favour will give me the tools to produce a greater quality of work in the future as I have understood the importance of tone and composition within my work and also understood the market itself and how artists are able to successfully generate sales and profits from their artwork.

I particularly chose Margaret Licha to study and analyse in detail due to her selective artistic style as her Ceramic tile artwork is something that I am curious to explore and is something I may wish to think about when contemplating what technique I wish to use next within this project I am undertaking.Margarets passion and artistic sensibiliy were two things that drew me into researching extensively about her as Margaret Licha's artwork speaks for itself within the contemporary artworld.

Margaret Licha's artwork is currently promoted and sold on her website (www.margaretlichatile.com) and in many craft shops across the USA. As the age of technology and more specifically that of the internet has come upon us I found it relevant to include an artist that sells their work to a global market with the help of the internet as this factor of promoting and selling world cannot be ignored or excluded within todays society. whilst analysing how many artists sell, present and promote their work due to its dominance and influence of the internet over the artistic market, I have found that the benefit of doing so is large as the artist is able to present their work to everyone and anyone who is able to access the internet , which therefore generates sales ,which in turn helps to promote their work and the artist. Without such access to the internet and Margarets website I would not have been able to access various information about her and/or been able to anlayse her artwork on such an intricate and detailed level.

This has made me assess how I could possibly promote and sell work as, after observing Margarets tile website, I have been inspired by the thought of producing my own website in order to attract a larger audience of people and promote my work, as this in favour could also attract future clients and more work possibilities. Even though Margarets techniques and finished pieces of art aren't similar to that of my own creations I still believe her work does relate to my own and can/does inspire me and what work I do. I believe it relates to that of my own due to processes of which Maragret produce her artwork, as we both firstly design the image we wish to produce then move on to layering our artwork in several stages I believe we share a similar technique in this sense. Maragret Lichas raw passion for her artwork and passion of the inspiration she uses for tiling (animals) allows Licha to explore her creativity and artistic capabilities where upon Margarets pieces are always individual and different.

Margaret Licha's ability to deploy various techniques and natural ability to produce an image with self express and aesthetic realism has enable me to think more about how I could possibly stylize and individualize my work from the rest so I stamp my own style for others to be interested in.The excogitate way in which Margaret has produced her work is something that I believe relates and link well with my own, however after judging her work accordingly I believe Margarets techniques deployed and use of various materials is something I wish to incorporate within my own work.
Overall, Maragarets unconventional methods and process of presenting, promoting and selling of work have undoubtedly made me assess and re-think about the possible ways in which I can do the same for my own work as the key aspect that has caught my attention is the fact that ( as seen in Margarets work)there is no one method way in which I could sell , promote and present my work. Thanks to the new media's that have erose from the 21st century it is now possible to trarget any group or set of people from anywhere in the world.

Indepth Analysis of the artist
The artist: Richard Price, Painter

At the age of 11 Richard Price started drawing and painting from observations of a local fishing fleet at Leigh-on-Sea, Essex. Encouraged to simply paint ‘anything’ Price quickly was drawn to paint atmospheric conditions and produce light effects with paint ect. Richard Price's later decided to study at Portsmouth where he developed an interest in interiors, portraiture and figure painting . In fact his degree show was a show of portraits and figure paintings. The everyday people, situations and places were his subjects.I particularly chose Richard Price o research as his presentation, promotion and management style of his work is something to which I aspire to do to that of my own.

How does Richard Price present, promote, manage and sell his work?

After extensive research I have found that Richard has various methods in the actual selling of his work. His paintings do go on sale to the public and have been comissioned off to private galleries ect. His style and creativety within this department has influence my decisions on how I could possible manage and promote my artwork as it is possible to sell any piece of artwork with the help of a good marketing plan and good management.

Richard key to successfully presenting his work to the public is due to array of market areas he targets. With many poeple after artwork of his such as " the arcade" or "summer market" it is vital for Richard to present his work so that everyone is able to observe his creations. One method of presenting his work is through the use of the internet. As I searched Richards website I found that his artwork was being displayed on one of his pages and presented to a global market of people. The benefit of being able to present such artwork on the internet to a global market is the fact that everyone who is ale to access a computer can observe Richards artwork in the comfort of their own homes. From a marketing perspective I believe that this method of presenting can benefit the promotion and selling of Richard Price's work as he is able to promote and present his work to a vast amount of people who could be potentially interested in buying his artwork. I believe that this can be beneficial for my project as this has made me more aknowledged about the various ways in which we can present artwork than that of normal ways commonly seen. This could also effect my project as it has enabled me to understand the importance of the internet and the possibilites that are on offer within this market.
Another way in which Richard Price presents his work is through various exhibitions that happen throughout the country. Recently Richards work has been displayed in galleries such as the Manya Igel Fine Arts gallery and various other galleries situated across the uk. I believe that this type of presentation and 'exhibition' is important in the existance of the art world as many still flock to see Richards and various other artists work within these important galleries. The way in which the artworld has changed has somewhat left a flaw within the market as many wish to observe artwork online without the passion to visit the galleries. This is ultimately one of the most important factors of present and exhibiting artwork for all to see as the austhetic value that we can see when we are personally up close to the image is soemthing that cannot and should not be replicated in any other form. I personally believe that it is crucial to continue to display artists work within these conditions found within art exhibitions and galleries as they offer an experience for any art lover that cannot be matched. I believe this is one aspect that Richard addresses well as he has decided to use multiple presentation techniques from the internet to exhibitions, shows and various artwork within selected galleries to present his artworld to the public.

Richards method of promotion is similar to that of his presentation of his artwork. Richards understanding for the way in which he should promote his artwork to the public has enabled him to promote to a large amount of people, thanks to the help of various promotional influences (being that of the internet, galleries and shows). The internet has enabled Richard to successfully promote his artwork on an international level. This modern way of promoting can enable Richard to promote his artwork in a professional manner as his website allows him to creatively present and promote artwork that everyone is able to observe. From an artists persepctive I believe that this method of promotion can benefit an artist and their overall success within the market. As times for an artist within todays society are hard ( due to competition and the vast array of artwork/artforms out there) it is important to promote in a place that is fitting with the current market. As the internet is used commonly by artwork collectors and people who just wish to buy a painting due to its design it is vital for an artist to promote their artwork on the internet in order to have any potential chance of success. richard does this well and is 'up to date' with the industry as his artwork seems to be selling well on his website. This use of promotion on the internet can determine whether an artists work is going to be a success or a failure as, due to market changes, it is undoubtedly important to promote artwork on the internet and other different platforms in order to be a successful artist.

How does Richard price manage his artwork?

From an artists perspective one of the most important attributes to have within the industry is to be good at being able to manage the flow of his artwork and manage his career. Richard has been successful within this aspect of his life as he has undoubtedly handled himself particularly well in his circumstances. Richard ability to handle the lifestyle of an artist has enabled Richard to continue with projects and artwork whilst maintaining a steady flow of interest and buyers. I certainly have to adress how I am going to manage my own artwork and project as planning is essential in order to maintain interest in potential clients.
Alot of Richards artwork is often presented and managed in a professional manner which allows Richard to focus on his audience and artwork within the future. As most of his collection is included on his website ,Richard can manage his artwork from home without the various problems that may arise him without this platform. After researching into Richards management methods I do believe that the ability of being able to manage a collection of artwork on through the internet and a dedicated website could be something in which I should consider. This would allow me to present, promote, manage and sell my work effectively as it could all be arranged by a click of a button. This method could also cut down the issue of time and funding as in todays society it is relatively cheap to produce a functioning website for the world to view.

How does Richard Price sell his artwork?
Richard ( as extensively researched above) sells his artwork through a variety of platforms and methods. His website enables Richard to beneficially sell his work to an array of people on a global level as his artwork can be easily displayed to a vast amount of people thanks to his website. Alongside the use of the internet to sell his artwork, Richard also sells his work through various shows and auction houses. I found this to be an interesting way in which to sell a piece of art as Richard truly does go the extra mile to sell his art on a regular basis. One thing that I have learnt from such an artist is the possibilities to which we are able to distribute artwork to anyone. As the market is expanding and technological advancements mean that it is possible to sell artwork to everyone I find it important to use a variety of methods to sell my artwork or atleast present and promote my artowork as this is a technique that should be adopted in order to potentially be successful within the contemporary artworld.

How does his art relate to my work and how can I apply his work to that of my own

I specifically chose Richard Price to investigate as his imaginative and expressive artwork is something that I can relate to. I believe that the way that Richard Price manages, present, promotes and sells his artowork is innovative and something to be admired. I believe such thoughts as his attitude and relationship for art is something that is reflected within his artwork itself and something that I too can relate to with that of my own work and existing project. The way in which Richard expresses what he sees around him is influencial to what I wish to capture within my artwork and express the same passion within my current project for my client. I can relate to Richard Price's artwork as his rich tones, textures and overall quality and passion for this artform is similar to what I aim to create within my own work. In terms of presenting, exhibiting and also selling his work, Richards artistic capabilities are something that I wish to obtain within the future. I can relate to his artistic career as I too have to exhibit, present and promote my work to a client for my project. After investigation I have come to realise how the artists I have analysed are similar to myself in terms of exhibiting and promoting their work. I can relate to the importance of producing a quality finished piece of artwork, understanding how to attract an audience and how to present and exhibit artwork thanks to these extensive investigations into the artists I have researched throughout the project.
